Meet the SDS community

We are currently gathering a group of founding families to kickstart Singapore's first democratic school.

A child's journey toward independence is often more difficult for parents than for children. That is why we encourage parents to support their children by reading the following books:

a) 'Free to Learn' by Peter Gray

b) 'Changing our Minds' by Naomi Fisher

c) 'When Children Run the School' by Jim Rietmuller.

Before contacting us to indicate your interest, here are some key things to consider:

1) Singapore Democratic School will be the first place in Singapore to offer Self-Directed Education during regular school hours. Self-Directed Education means that education is derived from our students' self-chosen activities and experiences. We allow children to pursue their own curiosity in a safe and facilitating environment.

2) Regular school hours are from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. The drop-off and pick-up times can be later or earlier, respectively, as long as this doesn't interfere with students' responsibilities to their community (School Meeting announcements, School Court duty, or All Hands cleanup time). More on this in our Parent Handbook

3) School holidays are aligned with international school holidays.

4) Enrollments are open for children aged 5-12.

5) School fees are at SGD 18,000 annually for the first child. Once a sibling enrols, the sibling's annual tuition will be reduced by 25%. A third enrolled sibling has a 50% fee reduction.

6) Our location will be determined closer to our start date in 2027.
